Period Styles: Art Deco

Art Deco styleOur 1829 paint range is inspired by the arts and crafts of a number of diverse cultures and distinctive periods in history.

Art Deco is one of these periods, spanning the roaring 20’s through to the Depression of the 30’s. Art Deco (1908-1935), the most extravagant style of the twentieth century, swept across the globe adding a glamorous edge to everything from fashion and cinema to architecture and interiors.

The distinctive iconography of Art Deco includes natural symbols such as sunbursts and plants, together with manmade structures like skyscrapers and ocean liners. Art Deco celebrates fantasy, fun and glamour and still has huge appeal today.

Notable and iconic Art Deco designers include Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Rene Lalique, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Eileen Gray.

Examples of Art Deco architecture include Battersea Power Station, The Chrysler Building and the hotels of Miami Beach.

Think Tiffany lamps, flapper girls and sophisticated glamour!
