When people are choosing colour schemes, they often contact us to find out what colour combinations they should use.
The most important thing to remember is that colour choice is subjective, so there are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers here – if you think it looks good, then that is what matters. There are however a number of colour theories and tips that can help.
The most on trend colours this season have been grey tones, deep, mossy greens and blues. We have put together our top three colour combinations using these popular colours to help you to create a room scheme.
1. Graduating greys and blues: Pompadour, Study Room Blue and Saxe Blue – very similar in tone, these three colours create a calm and subtle combination. Although Saxe Blue has a deepness to it, it is not a bright colour, it is muted so can be used over a larger area without becoming the main focus of the room.
2. Balanced scheme: Damson, Soft Green and Pale Mortlake Cream – Purple and Green tones are a winning combination. Team these with a soft neutral like Pale Mortlake Cream for balance and you will create a sophisticated space that can feel bang up to date, or with some choice accessories, reminiscent of a fifties feel.
3. Natural Tones: Tapestry Green, Deep Adam Green and Regency Cream – This combination creates a really natural, earthy feel and captures one of the season’s biggest trends – mossy, jungle greens. You can vary the effect, depending on how much Deep Adam Green you use versus Regency Cream. A feature wall of one teamed with three walls of the other would create quite different effects. Jungle print textiles would look great with this combo.
So those are our favourite combinations, but feel free to experiment and create your own! Cut your favourite colour chips from the colour card and place them beside each other to see how they look, and how the effect changes as you replace one with another shade.
