This summer, we challenged interior stylist and content creator Kyla Magrath to use Craig & Rose paints to create a unique feature in her home, inspired by her own personal style. In need of a little more storage space in her dining room, but not a big fan of a functional aesthetic, she wanted to find a way to make this simple Ikea unit more fitting of her boho style home. Kyla was instantly drawn to Rust Effect from our Artisan collection and decided to use it to add more texture and interest.

Here's the finished result - stocked with boxes and jars of tasty ingredients, all labelled up and easy to find. So, instead of a stark white box, Kyla has transformed the overall appearance of this bookcase so that it seamlessly blends in with all the surrounding textures in her dining room. And with the whole unit in mind, you'll notice that she also painted the internal surfaces too using an Eggshell finish from our 1829 Collection.

Completed in just one afternoon, this project proves how easy it is to achieve a show-stopping finish, whether that be on a piece of furniture or a feature wall!
Kyla started by building her simple Ikea unit.
She used our 1829 White Undercoat to prepare the surfaces of the bookcase.
Kyla also ordered a tin of Rust Effect paint as well as the necessary Rust Activator Solution.
Pink Beige was the colour of choice for the internal surfaces.
As you can see, the Rust Activator creates the look of rusted iron, when applied over the top of the Rust Effect paint.
Recommended for feature walls to make a statement as well as other surfaces such as home accessories. This is a two-step system using the Rust Effect and the Rust Activator Solution and provides an achievable way to create a stylish industrial feel in any home. Our Rust effect is now conveniently available in a 2.5L tin as well as 125ml, 250ml, and 750ml.
